Population development in the Netherlands at the NUTS 1 regional level
Síbová, Monika ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Brázová, Kateřina (referee)
Population development in the Netherlands at NUTS 1 regional level Abstract The main goal of this thesis is to analyze the population development in the Netherlands at the level of NUTS 1 regions in the period 1990-2020. The analysis of population development is based on the comparison of indicators of age structure, fertility, and mortality. The work includes a description of the population development between 1950-1990 and also includes an outline of the historical and social context that determined the country's population development. The work aims to evaluate whether and or how these factors had an impact on the population development of the country and individual NUTS 1 regions. Keywords: NUTS 1, Netherlands, population development, regional differentiation, migration
Growing genetically modified crops in the world
Herodesová, Adéla ; Jančák, Vít (advisor) ; Eretová, Veronika (referee)
The bachelor thesis analyses the regional differentiation of genetically modified crops' cultivation in each country's territorial breakdown. The thesis defines basic technical terms, biotechnological breeding history, and the classification of genetically modified crops according to the modified traits. Emphasis is placed on national attitudes towards the use of this biotechnology in agriculture and the resulting legislation. It is shown that legislation has a major impact on the cultivation of genetically modified crops. In particular, the thesis compares the legislative approach between the European Union and the USA, which differs significantly. A closer look is devoted to the cultivation of genetically modified crops in Czechia. Selected factors (organic farming, farm size structure, and nutritional deficiencies) that may be related to the cultivation of genetically modified crops in each country are examined based on graphs and maps generated from secondary data. The results are discussed with relevant literature. Keywords: GMO, genetically modified crops, regional differentiation, legislation, agriculture
Regional differentiation of availability and success in tennis in Czechia
Kobr, Adam ; Fialová, Dana (advisor) ; Cimová, Tereza (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the accessibility and success rate of tennis in individual municipalities with extended scope in Czechia and finding the connection between these criteria and the level of development of the municipalities. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, first a literature search on the geography of sport was conducted. This was followed by a chapter on the historical development of tennis in the world and in Czechia. Next, trends in tennis, which are very important for the current form of the game, were presented. The typology of, can be described as the key part of regions can be described as the key part of the theoretical part. In the practical part of the thesis, the tennis infrastructure and the performance of tennis players in each municipality was compared with the level of development of the respective municipality. The work is executed with publicly available data managed by the Czech Tennis Association, recalculated per municipality with extended scope and relativized to the population. The typology of municipalities is taken from a study conducted at the Department of Social Geography and Regional Development, Faculty of Science, Charles University for the Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic. Political and regional differentiation of Serbia in the case of the entering EU
Cvetkovićová, Katarina ; Tomeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Martínek, Jiří (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the regional differentiation in Serbia with regards to the question of the country's accession to the European Union (EU). The analysis is based on a voting preferences of pro-European or Eurosceptic political parties and leaders. The prerequisite is a north-south polarization of these preferences correlating with socio-economic maturity of the region. Thesis uses electoral geography to determine if this correlation exists and if so, how stable it is in the time period. The first part of the thesis discusses a general theory of regional differentiation of electoral results, the emergence and development of nationalism in Serbia and Serbia's relations and cooperation with the EU. The second part of the thesis attempts to provide an objective image of the Serbian political scene, its electoral history and main political affairs. These two parts, in which the thematic literature is discussed, serve as a theoretical framework for the third part of the thesis which deals with the analysis of electoral results in socio-economic frame and also contains a discussion of the results of correlation. Key words Serbia, electoral preferences, regional differentiation, European Union
Demographic aging by standard and alternative indicators in selected countries of Europe and their regional differentiation at NUTS2 level
Klapková, Michaela ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
Demographic aging by standard and alternative indicators in selected countries of Europe and their regional differentiation at NUTS2 level Abstract Demographic aging is often called a phenomenon of the 21st century. However, it is a natural process, which we more or less consciously influence. Population aging is the result of improving the health status of the population and enhancing the quality of human life that has already begun in the 18th century in the context of demographic revolution. The current concern about the sustainability of national social systems in the context of population aging are obviously reasonable, but these concerns are based on the standard characteristics of the age structure, which often use a fixed age of entry into the final stage of life. However, with the lengthening of human life the natural boundaries of old age changes. Alternative indicators on the basis of the concept of prospective age do not use the number of years a person has already lived, but on the number of years that a person will probably live. Paper compares the development of standard and alternative indicators in the Czech Republic, Sweden and Germany in the years 2000-2013 and focuses also on regional differentiation at the NUTS2 level of selected regions in northern, western, eastern and southern...
Regional differentiation of cause-specific mortality in selected countries of Central Europe
Domonkos, Zsolt ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyse the differentiation in mortality rates at the international and regional level (NUTS 2) in selected countries of Central Europe (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Switzerland). At the country level, it examines the development of total mortality and cause- specific mortality since 1990. At the regional level, it evaluates the regional differences in total mortality and cause-specific mortality in the period 2008-2010. The thesis makes use of demographic indices (life expectancy, dispersion measure of mortality, lifespan disparity, standardised death rate) and tools of statistical analysis (Poisson regression, cluster analysis). The analysis reveals that mortality rates have decreased in Central European countries, although significant differences in the intensity of mortality can still be observed at the international as well as regional level. Spatiotemporal analysis of spreading of influenza epidemic in Czechia
Švábová, Lea ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Šídlo, Luděk (referee)
Influenza is accompanying humans for centuries and for centuries people are dying in hundreds. Every year there is seasonal influenza epidemy, which is caused by common circling influenza viruses in which happened small changes. Every 10-20 years is discovered completely new influenza virus subtype which is created by big genetical changes. Most affected areas are poor states in Asia or in different countries with insufficient hygiene or unavailable medical care, these countries also have huge mortality. Czech Republic wasn't independent for many centuries and describing historical evolution of this disease is very complicated, but we have few data form Spanish influenza time. Influenza and other acute or chronical respiratory are reported, so it is possible to create some demographic or statistical analysis. Unfortunately, in Czech Republic only 50-55 % of all cases are reported. This work is devoted to spatiotemporal analysis of influenza in Czechia and is done through statistical analysis like corelation analysis or time series analysis that are examining spatiotemporal way of the spread of the virus. Goals of this thesis with the help of these methods are to answer questions about questions concerning the spatiotemporal patterns of influenza spread, therefore what the repeatability of...
Development of total mortality and mortality from selected causes of death in the Czech and Slovak regions since 2001
Mondeková, Alexandra ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Maláková, Kateřina (referee)
The main aim of the bachelor thesis is to analyse total mortality and selected causes of death in Czechia and Slovakia, based at regional level. It means a comparison of their development for each region in both countries. The analyse is monitored from 2001 to 2018. The first part of the analysis is devoted to the analysis of the total mortality using various indicators as a life expectancy at birth and life expectancy at 65 years. Also, this part is finished by decomposition method which complements the results of life expectancy at birth. Following the development of total mortality, second part of the analysis is about selected causes of death. Only the diseases that are most numerous in both countries were chosen for this part of the thesis. In terms of total mortality, the main result is that mortality rates are improving in the Czechia and Slovakia, which is reflected in increasing of life expectancy. As part of the analysis of mortality from selected causes of death, it was found that during the observed period there was a decrease in the intensity of mortality from the category of diseases of the circulatory system. The trend from mortality in cancer is slightly different, because while the intensity of mortality is declining in the Czechia, in Slovakia the trend is very slow for men and essentially...
European Regions as an Example of the Relationship between Human, Institutional and Social Capital and Economic Performance
Chudý, Vít ; Netrdová, Pavlína (advisor) ; Pileček, Jan (referee)
This thesis is focused on the description and assessment of the relationships between human, institutional and social capital and the assessment of the effects of capital types on economic performance. After the operationalization of capital types and economic performance that was based on literature research, the relationships were analysed using the example of European regions (specifically NUTS 2). The analysis is focused on the regional differentiation of capital types and economic maturity. It also monitors the relationships between capital types and economic performance. This thesis is based on the latest statistical data from offices and surveys that deal with the quality of the institutional environment or the characteristics of social capital. The characteristics of capital types are shown in maps. For the statistical data analysis, we used factor, correlation and regressive analysis. Keywords: human, social and institutional capital, economic performance, GDP per capita, regional differentiation, European regions NUTS 2
Demographic revolution in developing countries with a special regards to Africa and Zimbabwe
Muza, Collet ; Pavlík, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Fialová, Ludmila (referee) ; Pechholdová, Markéta (referee)
The demographic revolution in developing countries and Africa with special regards to Zimbabwe Abstract This dissertation aimed to examine the demographic revolution in developing countries, Africa and Zimbabwe. The decline of mortality and fertility everywhere in the world demonstrates the importance of the demographic revolution as a global process. While this universality was central to classic revolution theory, for many decades, it was questioned by demographers because fertility and mortality in Africa did not seem to follow the expected pathway. In sub-Saharan Africa the demographic revolution has been characterised by lagging, discontinuation and is occurring at a faster pace against low levels of socioeconomic development than observed in Europe, which has consequences for population dynamics. Questions have emerged if Africa is indeed different and a homogenous continent regarding demographic processes? However, empirical studies that have explored the unique demographic revolution starting from developing countries, Africa and Zimbabwe are lacking. The first part of the thesis on developing countries showed variations in the reaction of fertility to mortality decrease with historically small gaps and extended gaps in more recent revolutions, plus the much faster decrease in vital rates in many...
